Failure Entry 1: FAILED_POWER_SUPPLY
Details
Storage Subsystem: FastT600
Power supply canister
Service action (removal) allowed: Already removed
Enclosure: Controller/Drive enclosure
Failed or Removed Power Supply Canister
What Caused the Problem?
One or more power supply canisters in the storage subsystem have failed or been removed. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.
Caution: Potential loss of data accessibility.
If a second power supply failure occurs in the same enclosure, the enclosure will shut down. Therefore, replace the failed power supply canister as soon as possible.
Caution: Possible loss of data accessibility. Do not remove a component when either (1) the Service action (removal) allowed (SAA) field in the Details Area of this recovery procedure is NO (
), or (2) the SAA LED on the
affected component is OFF (note that some products do not have SAA LEDs). Removing a component while its SAA LED is OFF may result in temporary loss of access to your data. Refer to the following Important Notes for more detail.
Caution: Electrostatic discharge can damage sensitive components. Always use proper antistatic protection when handling components. Touching components without using a proper ground may damage the equipment.
Important Notes
- Before performing any of these recovery procedures, verify the power cord is properly inserted into the canister and connected to an operational power source.
- Use the fault or power indicator light on the power supply canister to determine which canister has failed (most enclosures have more than one power supply canister).
- If necessary, refer to the applicable hardware manual for detailed replacement procedures.
- Service Action Allowed Important Information:
- The Service action (removal) allowed field in the Details Area indicates whether or not you can safely remove the component. If the SAA field is NO (
), then the affected component
must remain in place until you service another component first.
- The Service action LED on Component field in the Details Area indicates whether or not a physical SAA LED is present on the hardware component. This field does NOT indicate whether the LED is ON or OFF (that indication is provided by the Service action (removal) allowed field).
- If a component does not have an SAA LED, then it is OK to remove the component when its fault LED is lit and the Service action (removal) allowed field = YES (
) in the Details Area.
- The Service action (removal) allowed field shown in the Details Area and the physical SAA LED on the hardware component (if supported) MUST match before you remove the affected component. In rare cases (such as multiple problems), the status of the LED and the SAA field may not match. If there is a mismatch, then you should NOT remove the component until these indications match.
Recovery Steps
1
|
For each enclosure listed in the Details area of Recovery Guru, perform the following:
a |
Select the power supply's corresponding Enclosure Components button located in the Physical View of the Subsystem Management Window. Then, select power supplies . |
b |
Check the status for the power supplies associated with the enclosure and apply the power supply's status to the table below.
If... |
Then... |
The status is failed |
Go to Step 2. |
The status is removed |
Caution: Potential loss of data accessibility. If more than one power supply is removed at the same time, the enclosure will shut down.
If no power supplies are missing, re-seat all power supply canisters in the enclosure one at a time by turning off the power supply's power switch, removing the canister, reinserting the canister, and turning on the power supply's switch.
Go to Step 6.
|
|
|
2
|
Turn off the failed power supply's power switch, unplug the power cord, and remove the power supply canister.
|
3
|
Check the model of the remaining power supply canister and ensure that the new canister is the same model.
If you do not have a canister that is the same model, contact your technical support representative.
|
4
|
Insert the new canister securely into place, replace the power cord, and turn on the power switch.
|
5 |
Select Recheck to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your technical support representative. |
